Tourists making their initial visit to Germany sometimes do a double-take the first time they they see a naked person. Germans think nothing of stripping to sunbathe. They do it on on beaches, by lakes, and in heavily frequented urban parks in Berlin and Munich. The country is one of the few places in the world where naturism occurs not just in secluded areas, but in the heart of major cities. Last summer saw bathers of both sexes at a clothing-optional lake in western Germany jeered by disapproving men who had apparently come to the area with harassment in mind.

Naked people are even streaking through the current election campaign, notes DW columnist Gero Schliess. But don't let that keep you from reading. The boundary between nudity and sex is, after all, fluid - even in this column. In Germany, stripping down to your birthday suit is a popular pastime for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It's a part of German culture, just like techno music and "Spargelzeit," the asparagus season. By the late 19th century, many Germans believed it was healthy to strip off and bathe "textile free" at one of the country's many lakes. At the time there was a move away from polluted industrialized cities to nature in pursuit of good health. Some people also enjoyed hiking or doing exercise in the nude.
Without any doubt, I dare to say that Oriental beach village is the jewel in the crown of naturism in Thailand. This beautiful naturist resort is located on the beach and is the only one in Thailand where you can experience the freedom of being naked while relaxing on the long sandy beach and swimming in the ocean. There I just take a ferry and it was only about 10 minutes long drive. There are ferries going every hour from 7 am to 6 pm. When you get to the Ko Kho Khao island you can take a taxi to the Oriental beach village or you can organize transport with the resort.
